The Bahnhof Stendal ( unofficially: Stendal Central Station) is one of three railway stations in the town of Stendal in Saxony- Anhalt. It is an important railway hub for regional trains and is also served by IC and ICE trains regularly. By the winter timetable 2012 of Stendal station was only hit by trains of Deutsche Bahn. Since December 2012, the ODEG serves the station with different trains.

History

On July 7, 1849, the town of Stendal received her first railway connection, as the Magdeburg -Wittenberg Ash Railway Company opened the Magdeburg -Wittenberg Ash railway. This led on the eastern outskirts of the village along with initially was the railway station.

However, in the course of construction of the railway line Stendal - Uelzen and the Berlin- Lehrter railway in 1870 the station had to be relocated to the southern edge of the city to allow the traveler a switch between the three routes. The Magdeburg -Wittenberg ash track was also laid to be connected to the new station and travels around the city since the west. Between 1869 and 1871 and the present station building was built.

In April 1886, the terminal station received at the Stendal Tangermünder railroad.

In June 1892 a tram connection between the station forecourt and the Uenglinger gate was opened; in October 1909, followed by a further, but further led to the former Ostbahnhof also to Uenglinger Gate, from there. Both tram lines have been decommissioned in October 1926 and replaced by a bus connection.

In the fall of 1908, the railway station in train - Stendal Arendsee was connected, after they had been converted from meter gauge to standard gauge in May 1914 with the narrow-gauge railway Stendal Arneburg. The route to Arendsee was gradually decommissioned 1978-1995. On the way to Arneburg the entire railway operation ended in October 1972.

The station was connected in January 1977, the railway line Stendal Niedergörne, which was intended as a connection for the uncompleted nuclear power station Stendal. Since the task of the passenger traffic in late 1995, the trunk is used only by freight trains.

In 1984 Stendal with the electrification of the line to Magdeburg connection to the electric railway network.

Between 1994 and 1998, the high-speed line Hannover- Berlin was parallel to the Berlin- Lehrter built. Against the wishes of the city there is also a southern by-pass Stendal was created, which is used today by most trains running on the route long-distance trains. Nevertheless held on 27 September 1998, the first ICE train station in Stendal.

Plant

The station has five through tracks and three stub tracks. The fully drivable track 1 is located on the main platform, the tracks 2-5 on two central platforms. The head tracks 6 and 7 are located east or west of the reception building and are accessible via the main platform. The third head track 8 closes in eastwards to the middle platform 2/3 of. West of the station is a large parking area.

At the station forecourt operate several bus lines, operated by Stendalbus, also is there a taxi rank.
