SVG Working Group

The SVG Working Group is convened by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C ) working group to support the request for an alternative to PostScript format documents result. The PostScript format was not able to create scalable fonts and objects without the created files were greater by a multiple compared to a file, which used only non- scalable fonts and objects.

In April 1998, the W3C received a note from four company representatives, including Adobe Systems, IBM, Netscape, and Sun Microsystems regarding the Precision Graphics Markup Language, or PGML - an XML-based markup language.

A second message came a month later by a team, in which representatives from Hewlett Packard, Macromedia, Microsoft, and Visio were; the note dealt with the use of VML, an XML-based Vector Markup Language.

As a result, both writing, the W3C convened a working group, and within six months, a working draft with requirements of the Scalable Vector Graphics ( SVG ) format has been published. This language, unlike, which uses PostScript optimized for Internet use. It allows the description of two-dimensional graphics and graphical applications through XML.
