Swimming at the 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's 200 metre backstroke

The competition of the men 's 200m back at the 2012 Olympic Games in London was held on 1 and 2 August 2012 at the London Aquatics Centre. 35 athletes took part.

There were five heats. The 16 fastest swimmers of all heats qualified for the two semi-finals, which were held on the same day. Again, the finalists qualified through the eight fastest times of both semi-finals.

Never before were so fast at the Summer Olympics swimmer on the medals. The winner Clary swam Olympic record, also the silver medalist Irie remained under the old brand. Defending champion Lochte swam the exact same time as his Olympic victory in Beijing. In this competition, the Chinese Fenglin could improve the Chinese national record it twice. Just half an hour later, Lochte also took part in the final of the 200m individual medley in part, in which he won the silver medal.
