Tennis at the 1904 Summer Olympics

In the III. Olympics 1904 in St. Louis two competitions were held in tennis. These took place on three tennis courts near the stadium Francis Field. The field was almost exclusively U.S. American, the German Hugo Hardy was the only foreigner.

Singles

The games were held in individual until September 3, 1904 by August 29. 27 players participated in this tournament, due to the odd number there were in the two preliminary rounds single byes. From today's perspective -known participants was Dwight Filley Davis, who later became U.S. Secretary of War and founder of the Davis Cup; He retired in the second preliminary round against Alphonzo Bell. Played was each of three sets, it was no match for the third place instead.

Doubles

The games were held in a double until September 3, 1904 by August 31. It is 15 pairs were formed, thereby forming a pair in the only first round with a bye. The first of the four individual tournament had come together, which is why these two pairs were considered favorites to win the tournament. Individual winner Beals Wright sat down by his partner Edgar Leonard. Played was each of three sets, it was no match for the third place instead.
