The Family Way is the first studio album with new compositions of a member of the Beatles. It is not considered solo studio album by Paul McCartney, since he only contributed the compositions. The album was released on January 6, 1967 in the UK and on 12 June 1967 in the United States.

Formation

Roy and John Boulting asked Paul McCartney in the late summer of 1966, whether he would be prepared for the feature film The Family Way ( German title: Honey Moon '67 ) to compose the score. McCartney agreed and wrote the film main theme of Love in the Open Air and Theme from the Family, which were recorded in several variations of studio musicians and orchestrated under the direction of George Martin in November 1966 and produced.

Paul McCartney did not seem to in the recordings as a recording artist. But it was the first McCartney compositions that were not published under the author partnership Lennon / McCartney. In the CD booklet of the re-release of the year 2003, an interview with Paul McCartney is in the states that John Lennon and he each a " little solo thing " made ​​in 1966, so John Lennon appeared in the feature film How I Won the war ( German title: How I won the War ) as Supporting Actor and McCartney composed the soundtrack for The Family Way. This is done by mutual consent.

The album was also placed in the charts neither in the UK nor in the USA.

The movie premiere took place on 18 December 1966 in London, Paul McCartney and George Martin were present at the movie premiere.

In December 1995, the Canadian guitarist Carl debut released a new interpretation of the soundtrack on a CD called The Family Way - Variations Concertantes Opus 1

Single releases

On December 23, 1966, the single Love in the Open Air / Theme From the Family Way was published in the UK under the stage name The Tudor Minstrels, who could not place in the charts. The A-side is the same song 6th Movement on the album, while the B - side songs from the 1st Movement and 13th Movement was put together. In the U.S., the single was released in March 1967, also without a chart position.

In the U.S., the single Love in the Open Air / Bahama Sound was released on April 24, 1967, this is however a new addition from the George Martin Orchestra, which was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in early February. The B-side is a composition by George Martin. Also, this single did not place in the charts themselves.

Reissues

  • On 22 July 2003, the album in mono- mix, first released on CD. As a bonus, the album contains the re-recording of the soundtrack of Carl debut in 1995 as well as three songs from La Flute Enchantee Quartet from 1999, which also interprets the theme of the soundtrack.
  • Another publication on 25 July 2011 in remastered original stereo mix with the bonus tracks Love in the Open Air and A Theme from the Family Way.
