Thrillington is the first solo studio album by Paul McCartney, which he published under a pseudonym. At the same time it is the ninth album Paul McCartney after the breakup of the Beatles. The album was released on 29 April 1977 in the UK and on 16 May 1977 in the United States.

Formation

Shortly after the release of Ram mandated arranger Richard Hewson Paul McCartney trying to write an orchestral version of the album Ram in big- band sound and record them. Richard Hewson worked previously as an arranger with the album Let It Be by the Beatles with. The recordings took place from 15 to 17 June 1971 in London's Abbey Road Studios instead, Paul McCartney produced the recordings only. The mixing of the album was done by Tony Clark and Alan Parsons on June 18, 1971.

Paul McCartney chose not the album under his own name, but to publish under the pseudonym Percy " Thrills " Thrillington. For this person, according to press release a fictional life story was written.

However, the finished album appeared only on 29 April 1977 in the UK ( 16 May 1977 in the U.S.) under the title Thrillington. It could not place in the charts and the preparation was relatively promptly set after the release, so that developed the album in later years become a coveted collector's item.

The cover text was written by Clint Harrigan, who has also the cover text for the first album of Wings, Wildlife, wrote, even behind this pseudonym Paul McCartney hid.

Single releases

On 22 April 1977 the Single Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey / Eat at Home was released in the UK, who could not place in the charts.

Reissues

  • On 1 May 1995 ( USA: June 20, 1995) was first published in the remastered album without bonus tracks on CD.
  • Another publication was made in May 2012 as a supplement to Deluxe edition of the album Ram.
  • In March 2013, the album was released in download format.
