Wings over America is the sixth album by the group Wings. At the same time it is the eighth album Paul McCartney after the breakup of the Beatles and his first live album. It was released on 10 December 1976 in the United States and Great Britain.

Formation

Following the release of her album Venus and Mars Wings had gone on their world tour Wings over the World as of September 1975. From 6 September to 23 September 1975, the Wings went on tour in the UK and gave 14 concerts; followed by an Australian tour from November 1 to November 14, 1975, nine concerts. For the first time Paul McCartney sang with the Wings songs of the Beatles, a total of five, while only Maybe I'm Amazed and Red Rose Speedway only played his solo albums Ram and Wildlife and none of his debut album, McCartney My Love. The major portion of the concert program came from the last three number-one albums of the Wings in the USA. In the five Beatles songs the authorship of Lennon - McCartney McCartney - Lennon has been renamed.

After the release of the album Wings at the Speed ​​of Sound the Wings continued their world tour from 20 to 26 March with five appearances in continental Europe.

Between 3 May and 23 June 1976, the North American tour, under the name Wings over America, which included 31 concerts. Each of North concerts was recorded with a 24-track tape recorder. Between 19 October and 21 October 1976, the Wings gave four concerts in continental Europe as well as three concerts in London.

The order of the songs on the album corresponds with the exception of Go Now the order of the songs as they were played during the concerts. Go Now was played only during the three concerts from 21 to 23 June in Los Angeles and sung by Denny Laine.

Other concerts of the Wings were held in November and December 1979.

Wings Over America was the sixth number-one album for Paul McCartney in the United States.

On February 4, 1977 ( USA February 4, 1977), the single Maybe I'm Amazed / Soily appeared.

The promotional single were released in the U.S. as follows: on the A- side is one mono version and on the B side of the album / single version of the song. Video publication

The concert film Rock Show was only completed in 1980, and had its theatrical release in November 1980 in New York City at the Ziegfeld Theatre. All songs of the LP / CD are also included in the film, but the recording locations of the individual songs are not identical, so the songs Venus and Mars / Rock Show, Beware my Love were, Letting Go and Band on the Run was on June 10, 1976 was added; Maybe I'm Amazed, The Long and Winding Road, Yesterday and Silly Love Songs were filmed on May 25, 1976 in New York, the rest of the songs were recorded in Los Angeles on June 22, 1976. In June 2013 Rock Show was re-released in a restored and remastered version on Blu -ray and DVD in a 5.1 mix. This publication, which is dedicated to Linda McCartney and Jimmy McCulloch, includes all songs that are included on the LP / CD.

Also an eponymous TV special was produced by the world tour Wings over the World, which included, among others, material from rock show.
