The Fortified House in Scotland

The Fortified House in Scotland is a five- volume book by the Scottish author Nigel Tranter.

Written 1962-1970, it includes almost 700 buildings in Scotland, which are generally under the name " forts, minor castles, and fortified military Türmes landlords houses". Tranter each example illustrated with pen and pen.

The work was an extension of The Fort Alice and Early Mansions of Southern Scotland 1400-1650, which Tranter had written in the 1930s. However, much of his work is no longer consistent with current research. The first four issues were published by Oliver & Boyd, the fourth of W. & R. Chambers. Tranter's work was reprinted in 1977 and 1986 by James Thin, with the imprint The Mercat Press, for which Tranter made ​​some revisions.
