History

After Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ, Springsteen's also second album was recorded in summer 1973 in the 914 Sound Studios. To save money, booked Springsteen's former producer Mike Appel the night hours for the recordings. That and the already very poor conditions of the 914 led to productions that were firmly rejected by the CBS executives. Only after some revision, the album was produced and released in November 1973. From the criticism appreciated, even this album commercial success was at first refused. In the first year after the publication of 50,000 copies were sold in the U.S., which was enough like in the first album not to jump on the Billboard 200. In the following years, however, it reached one million copies sold platinum status.

1987 Album of the U.S. music magazine Rolling Stone ranked 51 of the 100 best albums of the last 20 years and was elected in 2003 at No. 132 of the 500 best albums of all time.

In 2010, the album was released with Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ and the following five studio albums in the CD box set The Collection 1973 - 84
