Tomakivka

Tomakiwka (Ukrainian Томаківка; Russian Томаковка / Tomakowka ) is an urban-type settlement in the south of Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk Oblast and the administrative center of the raion Tomakiwka. The town has 7,693 inhabitants (2013 ) and is located 31 km west of Zaporizhia and 73 km south of the Oblastzentrums Dnipropetrovsk. In the south of the municipality is the national highway runs.

The settlement council community include not only Tomakiwka nor the 5 villages Katjoschtschyne ( Катьощине ) Olexandriwka ( Олександрівка ) Petriwka ( Петрівка ) Semeniwka ( Семенівка ) and Serhijiwka ( Сергіївка ).

History

Founded by the Cossacks in 1552 under the name " Uchod Tomakiwka " the place was until 1593 an Sich of the Zaporozhian Cossacks. In 1956 the village was awarded the status of an urban-type settlement.
