Verkhivtseve

Werchiwzewe (Ukrainian Верхівцеве; Russian Верховцево / Werchowzewo ) is a small town and railway junction in the center of Ukraine, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast with 9,241 inhabitants ( 2013).

Geographical location

The city is located in the southeast of Rajon Werchnjodniprowsk near the border with Rajon Krynytschky. Still belongs to the municipality of the village councilor Schyroke ( Широке ) ⊙. South of town is the sources of Saksahan, a 144 km long tributary of the Inhulez, and Mokra Sura, a 138 km long tributary of the Dnieper. The nearest major town is Dniprodserschynsk in 34 km distance. The Rajonshauptstadt Werchnjodniprowsk located 18 km to the north and the Oblastzentrum Dnipropetrovsk is 54 km east of Werchiwzewe. The town has a station on the railway line Krivoy Rog - Jassynuwata the Prydniprowska Salisnyzja.

History

Founded in 1884 as a railway station was the site in 1956 the status of a city. During the German - Soviet war Werchiwzewe was occupied on August 13, 1941 by the German Wehrmacht. The reconquest by the Red Army on 23 October 1943.
