Pidhorodne

Pidhorodne (Ukrainian Підгородне; Russian Подгородное / Podgorodnoje ) is a city in central Ukraine with 19,246 inhabitants ( 2013).

Geography

The city is located in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast and Raion on the banks of Samara, a tributary of the Dnieper. Pidhorodne is 15 km north of Dnipropetrovsk.

Through the town the highway, which meets on the outskirts of the runs. At the township and the village Peremoha heard ( Перемога ) ⊙.

History

The first mention of a village at the site of the present city in the early 17th century. 1778 was Sloboda. Until the Bolsheviks ' seizure of power was located in the urban area and the colony Kronsgarten, which had been founded by German Mennonites in Russia. In the years 1932 and 1933 was the site of the Holodomor, a famine affected. During the German - Soviet war Pidhorodne was occupied from August 1941 to September 1943 by the German Wehrmacht. The status of a city received Pidhorodne 1981.
