Tösens

Toesens is a municipality with 676 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the Landeck district in Tyrol ( Austria ). The municipality is part of the judicial district of Landeck.

Geography

Toesens is located on a narrow passage in the High Court, the upper section of the Tyrolean Inn Valley. For settlement area adjacent to the elongated village still has several hamlets in the valley and on the hillside.

History

In the 15th century of ore was mined for the extraction of silver, galena and barite. The counting of the highest mines in the Alps mines in Platzertal had temporarily because of glacier growth and 1910 will be permanently discontinued for lack of profitability. Toesens was originally part of the judicial district of Ried in Tirol and, after the dissolution of the judicial district of Ried in 1978 part of the judicial district of Landeck.

Culture and sights

  • Parish Church of St. Lawrence
  • A small ravine opposite the place is spanned by the Roman Bridge, which actually dates back to the Middle Ages, but was bricked in traditional Roman art and probably represents the oldest surviving bridge in Tyrol.
  • Above Toesens at 1104 meters altitude in the Serfaus is the Romanesque church of St. George Branch if Toesens which was gothic expanded in the late 15th century and inside completely painted.

Tourism

The gorge of Toesens is the goal of rafting boats that start from pound out. Toesens heard with Tobadill the financially weakest communities in the district.

Facilities

The volunteer fire department Toesens was founded in 1919. In the now 94 years firefighters Toesens had eight different commanders. First commander and also a founding member was Ferdinand Huter. He led the fire department until 1930.

Power plant project

In Platzertal above Toesens TIWAG plans to build a dam to enhance the Gepatschspeicher to a pump storage power plant.
