Vauvillers, Haute-Saône

Vauvillers is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté. It is the capital of the canton in the Arrondissement Vauvillers Lure.

Geography

Vauvillers situated at an altitude of 290 m above sea level, about 34 km north of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the northern part of the department, on a hill between the valleys of the north and Coney Superbe in the south east of the hill of Montdoré.

The area of ​​9:50 km ² municipal area comprises a section in the rolling countryside of the east of the upper Saônetals. The central part of the area is occupied by a west-east direction running, broad ridge, which is on average 300 m and forms the watershed between Coney and Superbe. Facing south, the height flattens out very slowly. On a hilltop southwest of the village is the highest elevation of Vauvillers is achieved with 353 m.

History

Remains of a Roman traffic route point to an early settlement of the area. In the Middle Ages Vauvillers belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont.
