The Verizon Center is a sports and entertainment arena that is situated in Washington, DC, USA. It is named after the telecommunications company Verizon Communications, and until March 2006 known as MCI Center. The arena is home to the National Hockey League team, the Washington Capitals, the National Basketball Association team, the Washington Wizards, the basketball team of the Georgetown Hoyas from the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the Washington Mystics of the WNBA.

History

In 1995 the construction of a new indoor arena in downtown Washington, the new home of the Washington Capitals and the Washington began Wizards should be, previously the absence of an arena in the District of Columbia, both their home games at the U.S. Airways Arena, in the Washington surrounding State of Maryland fought out.
