Vsevolozhsk

Vsevolozhsk (Russian Всеволожск ) is a city in the northwestern Russian Leningrad Oblast and has 59 704 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is situated on the Karelian Isthmus about 20 km northeast of Oblasthauptstadt Saint Petersburg on river Lubja, a left tributary of the opening into the Neva Okhta.

Vsevolozhsk is the Oblast subordinated administratively directly and as the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

On the territory of the present-day city was from the 18th century, the manor Rjabowo, which Peter I after the Great Northern War 1700-1721 his confidant and Field Marshal Alexander Menshikov had given.

From 1774 to 1779 the German -Baltic court banker of Empress Catherine II Baron Johann Freedericksz ( Frederiks Ivan ) was owner of the farm and left it there to record the production of cheese and the draining of the surrounding swamps.

From 1818 onwards, included farm and village arisen the noble family Vsevolozhsky which continue the improvement works, a sugar factory and major orchards and greenhouses was set up, was from which Saint Petersburg supplies. There was a theater, first with serf actors; Vsevolozhsk was the first town of Russia, in which the streets with gas lamps were lit. Rjabowo became a popular summer resort and from the mid-19th century to a known cottage settlement, in which the aristocratic circles of St. Petersburg met. Since 1892, led a company incorporated for the supply of St. Petersburg with peat and excursion traffic narrow gauge railway line, the Irinowka Railway (Russian Ириновская железная дорога / Irinowskaja schelesnaja doroga ) through the territory of the present-day city. A few kilometers west of Rjabowo first opened the station Christinowka, the (Russian Berngard ), was renamed Berngardowka soon after the owner of the local estates, the nobles Bernhard and to this day is called so. 1895 was the most important railway station of the city today Wsewoloschskaja by the owners Rjabowos. During the Second World War was during the siege of Leningrad, the " road of life " (Russian Дорога жизни ) by Vsevolozhsk, which connected the besieged Leningrad with the rest of the Soviet Union.

In 1963, the city charter was granted. Today Vsevolozhsk is a growing satellite city of St. Petersburg.

Economy and infrastructure

In Vsevolozhsk Ford has been producing 2002 cars of the type Ford Focus; Starting in 2008, the Ford Mondeo is to be made. In consequence, other companies in the automotive industry settled in the city, in 2004 the Finnish tire manufacturer Nokian Renkaat. In addition, there are farms for household appliances, textile and food industries, and the construction materials industry.

The town lies on the railway line between Saint Petersburg- Ladoschskoje Ozero ( on the western shore of Lake Ladoga ) or - Newskaja Dubrowka ( on the right Newaufer against Schlüsselburg and Kirovsk; suburban traffic from St. Petersburg Finland Station with Elektritschkas ). The highway M18 Saint Petersburg- Murmansk Petrozavodsk leads south past Vsevolozhsk. Through the town center, the A128 from St Petersburg leads to the western shore of Lake Ladoga.
