Washakie County, Wyoming
Washakie County is a county located in the state of Wyoming in the United States. On 1 July 2005 Washakie County had 7,933 inhabitants. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Worland.
Geography
The county has an area of 5,809 square kilometers; which 7 square kilometers of water. It is bordered clockwise to the counties: Big Horn County, Johnson County, Natrona County, Fremont County, Hot Springs County and Park County.
History
The county was founded in 1911. It was named after the Indian Chief Washakie.
Demographic data
According to the census of 2000, there were 8289 people in Washakie County. There were 3278 households, and 2310 families. The population density was 1 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 90.22 % White, 0.11 % African American, 0.55 % Native American, 0.74 % Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander residents from the and 6.21% from other races groups; 2.17% were descended from two or more races. 11.47% percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3,278 households out of which 32.40 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 59.90 % were married couples living together, 7.30 % percent were single mothers, 29.50 % were non-families. 26.50% of all households and 11.90% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.00.
Based on the county the population was spread out with 27.20 % under the age of 18, 6.40 % from 18 to 24, 25.20% from 25 to 44 years, 25.30 % between 45 and 64 years and 15.90% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 99.40 males, 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.30 males.
