Wiang Kaen District

Amphoe Wiang Kaen ( Thai: อำเภอ เวียง แก่น ) is the easternmost district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) of the province of Chiang Rai. The Chiang Rai province is located in the extreme north of the northern region of Thailand.

Geography

Neighboring districts are (from the south clockwise): Amphoe Thoeng the Khun Tan Chiang Khong and Chiang Rai province. To the east is the Laotian province of Bokeo.

History

Wiang Kaen was established as a sub-district ( King Amphoe ) on 1 April 1987, consisting of the three Tambon Muang Yai, Lai Po and Ngao which were cleaved from the Chiang Khong district. On September 7, 1995 Wiang Kaen received the full Amphoe status.

Management

The circle is divided into four subdistricts (tambon ), which are further subdivided into 41 villages ( Muban ).

There are also four " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
