William Vanneck, 5th Baron Huntingfield

William Charles Arcedeckne Vanneck, 5th Baron Huntingfield ( born January 3, 1883 in Gatton, Australia, † November 20, 1969 in Hove, United Kingdom) was a conservative British politician and Governor of the Australian state of Victoria.

Life

After visiting the Wellington College in England Hunting Field joined the army in 1906. In the following years he was stationed in British India. In 1914, he was classified as not usable due to an illness; the years of the First World War he spent in a reserve regiment in Aldershot. In 1921 he retired with the rank of captain from the army.

From 1923 Vanneck was a member of the House of Commons for the municipality Eye. However, for the election of 1929 he did not start due to his poor health.

His appointment as Governor of Victoria in December 1933 was positively received in Victoria, as he was the first governor, who was also born in Australia. Vanneck came with his wife in May 1934 in Melbourne and took up office. In 1938, he also led during the absence of Lord Growie for six months, the Office of the Governor General.

After the end of his term in 1939 he returned to England. In 1941 he was appointed Governor of Southern Rhodesia, but he resigned the office again because of health problems not to.

Hunting Field died on 20 November 1969. He was married twice and left two daughters and two sons.
