Yelena Välbe

Jelena Valerevna Välbe (Russian: Елена Валерьевна Вяльбе, born Трубицына / Trubizyna; born April 24, 1968 in Magadan ) is a former Russian cross-country skier. Early in her career, she competed for the Soviet Union in 1992 under the colors of the CIS, after Russia.

She is still one of the most successful skiers in all time. At World Championships Välbe won 14 gold and two silver medals. She was the outstanding athlete in the world championship in 1997 in Trondheim, where they won in all four individual races and with the Russian squadron.

Välbe won with the CIS relay at the 1992 Olympic Games in Albertville the gold medal. This success could be repeated in Lillehammer and Nagano 1998 with the Russian squadron in 1994. A single victory at the Olympic Games, however, was not granted to her, but she won the 1992 four more bronze medals.

The overall ranking of cross-country skiing World Cup won Välbe total of five times, in the years 1989, 1991, 1992, 1995 and 1997. Kept you long the record for number of wins (45) and podiums (81 ) in World Cup races. 1992 Välbe received the Holmenkollen medal.
