Zappa in New York is a live album by Frank Zappa. It was recorded at a series of concerts in the "Palladium" in New York City in December 1976.

Zappa wanted the album originally published in 1977, but publication was delayed due to disagreements between Zappa's Discreet Records label and distribution by Warner Bros. Records. In 1977, only a small number of LPs and cassettes with the intended Zappa track list. Shortly thereafter removed Warner without permission the song " Punky 's Whips ". Warner also questioned the track order together again, before the album was released in 1978.

As Zappa's distribution deal with Warner ended in 1982, were the rights back to him. Zappa released the album out as a remastered double CD in 1991, also on the " Punky 's Whips " reappeared. However, the CD version contained a guitar backing tracks and four bonus tracks, including a significantly longer version of " Titties and Beer ".

On the album playing members of the Saturday Night Live band, about Lou Marini and Tom Malone and the Brecker Brothers. In addition, was invited to the palladium concerts Don Pardo Zappa. He read the introductory comments to " Punky 's Whips " and "The Illinois Enema Bandit ".

Zappa in New York presented mostly new material. " Punky 's Whips ," a story about Terry Bozzios infatuation with Punky Meadows, guitarist of the band Angel. Even the humorous " Titties and Beer " with Terry Bozzio attempts in the role of the devil with the Zappa to negotiate the re- acquisition of the title things. In addition to the more amusing songs Zappa presented musically complex pieces like "The Black Page " and " Manx Needs Women ".

" The Purple Lagoon ", a long instrumental piece, which occupied the entire fourth side on the original double LP and among other things, Topics of the hitherto remained unpublished " Approximate " from the " Grand Wazoo " time processed, offered solos the Brecker Brothers (Winds ), bassist Patrick O'Hearn, saxophonist Ronnie Cuber and Zappa himself ( electric guitar). There were also photographs of older pieces, such as the re-arranged Waltz " sofa", which was originally released on One Size Fits All, as well as "Big Leg Emma" an old number of the Mothers of Invention.
