Žitenice

Žitenice ( German Schüttenitz ) is a municipality with 1300 inhabitants in Okres Litoměřice in the Ústí nad Labem Region of the Czech Republic. The over one hundred houses comprehensive village is situated in the Bohemian Middle Mountains, just to the northeast of the old Episcopal city Litoměřice ( Leitmeritz ). Žitenice applies with an annual average temperature of 9.42 ° C as the warmest place in Bohemia.

Geography

Žitenice is located on the southern slope of the Križová hora (590 m) in the Central Bohemian Highlands.

Neighboring towns are Pohořany in the northeast, Maškovice in the east, in the southeast Podviní, Litoměřice and Pokratice in the southwest, and Močidla, Skalice and Poustevna in the northwest.

History

Schittenz was mentioned in 1057 in the foundation of the collegiate St. Stefan in Litoměřice by Duke Spytihněv II for the first time. Even since that time, the south-facing slope of the vineyards and orchards were used. Besides cherries are in the 240 m asl lying village also peaches and apricots grown. Vratislav II made ​​the village the monastery on the Vyšehrad to the present. During the Hussite Wars took Žižka possession of Žitenice. In the mid-15th century, the lords of Ruppau bought the place. Next owners were the Vřesovec of Vresovice. By 1800 there were about 900 people in Schüttenitz. In Schüttenitz lived until 1945 predominantly a German -speaking population. In their dialect they named their village Schittenz.
