Zoltán Mechlovits

Zoltán Mechlovits [ Zolta ː n mɛʧloviʧ ] (* 1891, † March 25, 1951 ) was a Hungarian table tennis world champion.

The World Cup in the individual won Mechlovits at the 2nd World Cup 1928 in Stockholm. With his then 37 years he has been so far ( 2005) the oldest world champion. In the final, he lay against his compatriot Laszlo Bellak after 2 lost games in the third set already 17:20 back. However, he managed to keep all the match points and win the game even with 3-2 records.

In addition Mechlovits still won 5 gold medals with the team of Hungary. With Mária Mednyánszky he was twice world champion in mixed doubles. The Hungarian national championships he won 4 times in a single, 5 times in a double and 2 times in the mixed doubles.

Mechlovits was penholder player.

Mechlovits was involved in the founding of the ITTF. At times, he was Vice President of the ITTF. On the ITTF Congress in Vienna during the World Cup 1951 he was appointed ITTF Honorary Member.
