Alpinism

  • JUNE 28: One rope team consisting of Adolphus Warburton Moore, Horace Walker and Jakob Anderegg succeed the first ascent of Piz Roseg in the Grisons Bernina group.
  • June 29: Edward Whymper, Christian Almer and Franz Biner the first ascent of the Aiguille Verte, a four-thousand in the Alps.
  • July 6th: The first ascent of the upper fork horn succeed Adolphus Warburton Moore, Horace Walker and Jakob Anderegg. The very next day the losers in the race for the top, Francis Douglas, Peter and Joseph Taugwalder Viennin follow in her third attempt.
  • July 14: The first ascent of the Matterhorn by Edward Whymper, Lord Francis Douglas, Charles Hudson, Douglas Hadow Robert, Michel Croz and Peter Taugwalder father and son succeed. On the descent find four climbers death.
