1934 World Ice Hockey Championships

The 8th World Ice Hockey Championships and 19th Hockey Championship was held from February 3 to 11, 1934 in Milan, Italy.

Compared to last year 's World Cup no major changes were initially provided. It took again some twelve teams, with defending champion and world champion USA Canada were directly qualified for the second round. The remaining ten teams should play the remaining six sub-lap participants in three preliminary groups. However, in the preliminary round Group C there was a standoff with three point - and torgleichen teams, so that the organizing committee decided to allow all three teams progress to the second round. Since the last nine instead of eight teams were in the second round, the competition format had to be changed. Instead of two groups with four teams has now played in three groups with three teams each. The group winners came directly to the semifinals. The fourth semi-finalists has been played in an extra qualifying round runners-up. The two eliminated teams occupied depending on the result, the courts 5 and 6 three third place winners of the second round played with the retired in the first round teams a Placement Round 7-12 from around the places.

After winning the title in the U.S., Canada Cup brought back this year. It was the seventh world title for Canadians. The World Cup bronze medal and with it the European Champion title went to Germany; it was the second European title for the Germans.
