1953 Professional Matchplay Championship

The Snooker World Cup 1953 was officially under the name Professional Match Play Championship (PMC ) and was the second edition of this tournament after 1952. It took place in the " Houldsworth Hall " in Manchester instead, in the year before the competing association Billiards Association and Control Council ( BACC ) had held its world championship.

After it had in 1952 come to a dispute between some professional players and the BACC, Fred Davis founded the same year the Professional Match Play Championship (PMC ). After both groups had in 1952 hosted a World Cup, the BACC 1953 retired from hosting the World Championships and the Professional Match Play Championship was judged to 1957 World Cup.

For the Northern Irishman Jackie Rea it was, after 1949 and 1952, the third part in a World Cup.

In the final, stood for the seventh consecutive year, defending champion Fred Davis and Walter Donaldson from Scotland, opposite. Davis secured, with a 37:34, the fifth win over the Scots and marks its fifth world title.

The highest break was achieved by the Englishman John Pulman with 133 points.
