1997 World Snooker Championship
The Snooker World Championship 1997 took place from 19 April to 5 May 1997 at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield held and concluded the snooker season 1996 / 97th
Defending champion was the Scot Stephen Hendry, who again came to the final. There, however, he was beaten with 12:18 Ken Doherty. With Doherty for the first and so far only time a player won from the Republic of Ireland, the World Snooker Championship.

During the main round were scored by 16 players 39 Centuries. The highest number reached Stephen Hendry with nine Centuries. The highest break recorded Ronnie O'Sullivan, the 147 points the twentieth maximum break in the history of snooker and the fourth in a World Cup succeeded.
