1955 World Ice Hockey Championships
The 22nd Ice Hockey World Championship and 33 Hockey Championship took place from February 25 to March 6, 1955 in the Federal Republic of Germany. It was one of the first major sporting events that were held in post-war Germany and accordingly took great spectator interest. Venues were Cologne, Dusseldorf, Krefeld and Dortmund. A total of 14 teams took part in this World Cup, which was a new record for the postwar period. This meant that five less powerful teams ( called Junior tournament ) a B tournament fought out, as the sixth team out of competition took part in a German B team at that.
Sporty the tournament was dominated by the rivalry between world champion Canada and last year's sensational World Champion USSR. The Canadians took revenge for the sensational 2:7 defeat last year and picked up her 16th title. For the Soviet dethroned defending champion was at least the second European title.
