1997–98 Slovak Extraliga season

The 1997/ 98 Extraliga was the fifth regular hosting of the top division of Slovakia. In the playoff finals, the HC Slovan Bratislava sat against the TJ VSZ Kosice by 3-2 victories and won the first Slovak championship in club history. The league was expanded from ten to twelve participants for the following season. The top two teams in the second-rate first league, the HC Banska Baystrica and HK VTJ Prešov went directly to the Extraliga, while the third in the first league, the HK Spartak Dubnica against the last of the Extraliga, the MHk 32 Liptovsky Mikulas, had to compete. In the relegation to the last remaining starting place for the following season finally won Liptovsky Mikulas by 3-2 victories.
