1997 COSAFA Cup
The first edition of COSAFA Cups, officially COSAFA Castle Cup 1997 was held from 31 August 1997 by April 12. 5 football teams from the Southern African region played for the title of South Africa champion. Zambia won his first title. The preliminary round was held until March 16, from 1. Tanzania participated for the last time in the tournament.
Game Mode
Eight of the nine participating countries played in the first round against each other. Tanzania was set as a bye to the finals. The four teams that qualified for the finals and played in a group stage for the title of South Africa champion.

The first round took place until March 16, 1997 by March 1. Zambia, Malawi, Namibia and Mozambique managed to qualify in the first round to the finals.
