2000–01 Russian Superleague season
The 2000/01 season was the fifth season of the Super League. The league title secured for the second time the HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk, while Vityaz Podolsk and Dynamo-Energy Yekaterinburg descended into the Wysschaja league.

Main Round
Mode
The 18 teams in the Super League first played in a common main round in return game against each other, each team played 34 games season. Subsequently, the league was split into three groups, the teams 1-6 competed in the squares in return game to the best position for the playoffs, the teams ranked 7-12 for the other two playoff spots and the teams in places 13 to 18 for the league, the two last placed descended. The top eight teams who qualified for the playoffs, where the Master was played. For a win within regular time each team received three points with a win in overtime two points with a tie after overtime, there was also a point like a defeat after overtime. For one defeat after regulation time gave no points.
