1998–99 Russian Superleague season

The 1998/99 season was the third season of the Super League. The league title secured for the first time the Metallurg Magnitogorsk, while in the context of a leagues reduction from 22 to 20 teams for the following year with the HK Spartak Moscow Krylia Sovetov Moscow, HC Traktor Chelyabinsk, Chimik Woskressensk and Rubin Tyumen same five teams in the Wysschaja League descended.

Main Round

Mode

The 22 teams in the Super League first played in a common main round in return game against each other, each team played 42 games season. The 16 top-ranked teams who qualified for the play- offs, where the Master was played. The six last placed the main round had against the six best second division play for the league in return game, with the top four teams in the Relegation allowed to participate in the following year the game operation of the Super League.
