Abarán

Abarán is a municipality in the Spanish region of Murcia. It lies on the river Segura about 40 km from the city of Murcia. The municipality belongs to the comarca of Vega Alta del Segura, whose main town is Cieza.

The place is known for its waterwheels. It has four of the seven that are still operated in the region of Murcia. The Noria Grande is the largest water wheel in Europe, which is still in operation. Additional points of interest in addition to the bucket wheels are the three churches of San Pablo, San Cosme y San Damián and Santuario de la Virgen del Oro.

To the community includes several small towns, including Barranco Molax, San Jose Artesano, El Boqueron, Casablanca, Corona, Hoya del Campo and Venta de La Aurora.
