Acquasparta

Acqua Sparta is a town with 4939 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Terni, region Umbria.

Geography

Acqua Sparta is situated on a hill above the Naiatals, which is formed from the same river. On the opposite side of the valley is the mountain range of the Monti Martiani. The municipality covers an area of 79 km ².

The municipality includes the villages Casigliano, Casteldelmonte, Configni, Firenzuola, Macerino, Implementing Order, Rosaro and Scoppio.

The neighboring municipalities are Avigliano, Massa Martana ( PG), Montecastrilli, Spoleto (PG), Terni and Todi (PG).

History

The origin of the name is Aquasparta ( German " split water " or " between the waters " ) attributed to the Roman toponym Aquas Partas, a proof does not exist. At the time of the Roman Empire the town was known for its hot mineral springs and its position on the Via Flaminia, an easy-to -reach resort. The thermal springs exist to this day.
