Arrone

Arrone is a municipality with 2843 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Terni in the Italian region of Umbria.

Geography

Arrone located in the south of Umbria on the border with the province of Rieti ( Lazio ) in the valley of the Nera River, about 15 km east of the provincial capital of Terni, 66 km south-east of the regional capital of Perugia in the climatic classification of Italian communities in the zone D, 1800 GG. The municipality is part of the Parco del Nera Fluvial. The place is part of the joint management Comunità montana Valle del Nera e Monte San Pancrazio.

The municipality comprises the main town Arrone, which lies on a hill on the left side of the Nera, and the municipal districts Bonacquisto, Casteldilago, Castiglioni, Colle Sant'Angelo, Palombare, Rosciano, Tripozzo, Valleludra and Vallecupa.

The neighboring municipalities are Ferentillo, Labro (RI ), Monte Franco, Morro Reatino (RI ), Polino and Terni.

History

Arrone arose as a settlement around a castle, founded at the end of the 9th century of a Roman family of the same name. In the Middle Ages the town was important as he was on the road that connected the Abruzzo Rieti over the Duchy of Spoleto. From 1229 until the 15th century the village belonged to the Duchy of Spoleto, then, to the unification of Italy, the Papal States. The municipal statute dates from 1542.

Economy

The community Arrone living from agriculture ( olives, plus typical products such as truffles, trout ), crafts and athletic embossed tourism ( canoeing, rafting, trekking, rock climbing ).

Culture and sights

The main town Arrone consists of two medieval settlements, the higher La Terra within the walls of the medieval castle and Santa Maria at the foot of the hill. Another village with a medieval core is the district Casteldilago.

  • Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista - Church in La Terra (14th - 15th century ). In the apse frescoes of the Umbrian school of the 15th century have been preserved.
  • Chiesa di Santa Maria - Three-nave church with a portal from the 15th century. Inside there are frescoes by Vincenzo Tamagni, Giovanni da Spoleto are ( Storie della Vergine ) and Jacopo Siculo, to paintings by artists of the Umbrian school.
  • Convento di San Francesco - former monastery, today congress center
  • Chiesa di San Nicola - Church in Casteldilago, with frescoes by Lo Spagna (Giovanni di Pietro), 16th Century
  • Santuario della Madonna dello Scoglio - Sanctuary in Casteldilago
