Baschi

Bashi is a municipality with 2781 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Terni in the Umbria region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality covers 68 km ². It is located about 50 km south-west of the regional capital of Perugia and about 35 km northwest of the provincial capital of Terni on the Tiber in the climatic classification of Italian communities in the zone D, GR 1665 / G.

The districts include Acqua Loreto, Civitella del Lago, Collelungo and Morre.

The neighboring municipalities are Montecchio, Orvieto and Todi (PG).

History

Probably the village was founded at the end of the 8th century, when Ugolino and / or Galino di Biscaglia of Biscay with Charlemagne in Italy appeared and got the Castrum Vetus from him. The place held later nicknamed (Le Basque ) of Ugolino, which today is still eponymous ( Bashi means in Italian, the Basques ). First mentioned in writing is the place in 1235 as a possession of the Bashi family.

Attractions

  • Chiesa di San Donato, the Church in the district of Collelungo from the 13th century.
  • Chiesa di San Nicolò parrocchiale, church from the 14th century, 1575-1586 by Ippolito Scalza ( Orvieto, 1532-1617 ) was renewed. Contains a winged altar with the works of San Giacomo di Compostella, la Madonna in trono col Bambino e angeli, San Nicola by Giovanni di Paolo.
  • Parco del Tevere fluvial, Nature Reserve WWF since 1995, at which the place with four other municipalities in the province of Terni ( Alviano, Guardea, Montecchio and Orvieto), as well as those of Monte Castello di Vibio and Todi ( PG) is involved.
  • Santuario della Pasquarella, also called Santa Maria dello Scoglio, Sanctuary in the districts Acqua Loreto and Morre from the 11th century.
