Attigliano

Attigliano is a municipality with 1980 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Terni in the Umbria region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality covers 10 km ². It is located about 70 km south of Perugia and about 30 km west of Terni on the Tiber. The name comes from the nearby forest Tigli, which later ad tiglium was ( at Tigli ).

Among the districts Bufalino, La Croce, La Piazza, La Stazione, Lo Stradone, and Madonna delle Grazie belong.

The neighboring municipalities are Amelia Bassano in Teverina (VT), Bomarzo (VT), Giove, Graffignano (VT) and Lugnano in Teverina.

History

First settlements in the district come from the Etruscans. The castle comes from the descendants of Count Offredo, turn the descendants of the family of Alviano Alviano founded the place that already in the 11th century with a boundary wall and a harbor (now Porto Vecchio - old port called ) was fitted. In the 13th century Todi secured dominion over the place. After several wars in the 16th century between Amelia, Todi and the Papal State was ultimately Bartolomeo d' Alviano ( 1455-1515 ) to power. His family held it in 1540, when Pope Paul III. and his family of the Farnese the place for 104 years took over and eventually sold to the Count Marcello Raimondi di Genova. This, in turn, sold the place after seven years at the Pamphili, the Attigliano the Orsini leaving. In these, the place remained until 1860, when 1860 Umbria region of Italy was in the wake of the Risorgimento.
