Castel Giorgio

Castel Giorgio is a municipality with 2174 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Terni in the Umbria region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality covers 42 km ². It is located about 60 km southwest of Perugia and about 60nbsp; km northwest of Terni on the river Romealla and on the border of Lazio, near the Lake of Bolsena. It belongs to the Comunità montana Orvietano Narnese Amerino Tuderte and is crossed by the Via Cassia.

The districts include Casa Perazza and Contrada Poderetto.

The neighboring municipalities are Acquapendente (VT), Bolsena (VT), Castel Viscardo, Orvieto and San Lorenzo Nuovo (VT).

History

The oldest traces of settlement of the area date from the Villanovan culture, then were the Etruscans on the spot, as that arose in the 3rd or 2nd century BC necropolis of Lauscello shows.
