Advise & Consent (film)

Advise and Consent ( Original title: Advise and Consent ) is an American film drama directed by Otto Preminger in 1962 and is based on the novel of power and right of Allen Drury. Germany premiere was October 12, 1962.

Action

The liberal Robert Leffingwell is proposed as a candidate for the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United States. The proposal comes from the office during his second term President of the United States.

As a review panel of the Senate must review the proposed candidates and approve or reject the nomination. In the Senate, there is a struggle between the supporters and opponents of the president. This fight is very heated part. The senators involved include the experienced politicians Cooley, the newcomer Anderson and the power-hungry Van Ackerman.

Before the committee Herbert Gelman says as a witness and certify the candidate Leffingwell a communist past. Leffingwell describes himself as innocent. Anderson, who can not make friends with the political grave struggles, finds out that Leffingwell lying. It calls on the President to underscore the perjured Leffingwell of the candidate list. Van Ackerman assumed Anderson homosexuality. This accusation drives Anderson to suicide.
