Disputes over the naming rights

Al Jardine acquired after leaving the Beach Boys of Brother Records, the license rights to the name of the Beach Boys and was thus able to call " Beach Boys Families & Friends ," his new band. This caused some confusion for appearances, as organizers and fans ran out of the band name " Beach Boys, Families & Friends." In addition, Jardine did not keep to the prescribed program of concerts, with Brother Records wanted, that those who in any form whatsoever use the name " Beach Boys" also should play the latest hits. After one year the license agreement with Jardine was therefore not renewed.

Brother Records - initiated by Mike Love - requested an injunction against Jardine, to no more than " Beach Boy" appear in public. Jardine sued his hand Brother Records. Since he was still a member of Brother Records, he sued so technically himself.

In 2001, Jardine sued his hand, the remaining members of Brother Records to four million dollars, as they are allegedly not in favor of Mike Love would have given him the right to use the band's name may take. This action, he could decide for himself and said in an interview later that it had gone to him not just about the money, but also the opportunity to present itself again as " Beach Boy" in public.

In February 2007, Mike Love sued for his part Jardine on three million dollars, two million of legal costs and a million due to revenue that has been made under the name Beach Boys.
