Andrzej Czuma
Andrzej Czuma ( born December 7, 1938 in Lublin, Poland) is a Polish politician, lawyer and historian. From 23 January 2009 to 7 October 2009, he was Minister of Justice in the government of Donald Tusk.
He was long-time opposition activist in times of Polish People's Republic, was persecuted and oppressed and lived in exile since the 1980s. Currently (2008) he is an activist of Polonia and member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland.
Life
Andrzej Czuma is a graduate in law from the University of Warsaw and founder of the anti-communist freedom movement " Ruch ". In June 1970 he was arrested by the communist government of the People's Republic of Poland and sentenced to seven years in prison for an attempted overthrow of the socialist system. Czuma at that time was founder and spokesman for the Movement for Defense of Human and Civil Rights ( ROPCiO ) and editor of the magazine " Opinia ".
In March 1980 he was arrested for three months of organizing the celebrations of the National Independence Day at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Warsaw. As of September 1980, he then worked as a consultant to Solidarity in Silesia, as well as editor and publisher of the magazine " WiadomoĹ Katowickie ". December 12, 1981 to December 23, 1982 Andrzej Czuma was imprisoned in the internment camps in Białołęka, Jawor and Darlowek. Since 1986 he has lived in exile in Chicago ( USA), where he worked as a construction worker and painter in the early years. Since 1988, he had his own show at the transmitter WNVR 1030 and later at WPNA1490 in Chicago.
Since December 12, 2006, he was a member of the Sejm of the 5th cadence and November 5 2007, he is Member of the Sejm of the 6th cadence. On 23 January 2009, Andrzej Zbigniew ĆWIĄKALSKI Czuma successor in the position of Minister of Justice. Due to the so-called gambling affair, on suspicion of supporting the gaming industry to the detriment of the Polish state, he was released in October 2009 from the Cabinet of Tusk.
