Anrode

Anrode is a town on the edge of the Eichsfeld and is located in Unstrut Hainich in Thuringia.

Location

Anrode is located northwest of Mulhouse in the transition area from the lowlands to the Unstrut Eichsfelder transition and altitudes. The regional road connects with the 2035 federal highways 247 and 249 with Mulhouse and surroundings.

History

The village was first mentioned in March 1197. Until the 13th century the town was known Aninnrod. The farmers also went the way of the East German agriculture. Now held every second Saturday a Anroder farmers market. It's just a commercial place in the new village of a former monastery. The current community Anrode was formed on 1 January 1997 from the five former municipalities that are now their districts:

  • Hollenbach
  • Lengefeld
  • Zella

  • Vitus Recke († January 18, 1959 ), Cistercian priest, Abbot of Himmerod 1937-1959, was largely responsible for rebuilding the church of the monastery Himmerod
