Artern (district)

The circle Artern was a district in the county hall of the GDR. From 1990 to 1994 he was continued as a county Artern in Thuringia. Its territory is now largely in Kyffhauserkreis in Thuringia.

History

On July 25, 1952, came in the GDR into a comprehensive district reform, in which, among other countries lost their meaning and new districts were formed. The circle Artern was newly formed from:

And assigned to the newly formed district hall.

On May 17, 1990, the district was renamed County Artern. After the reunification of the two German states, the county Artern came in 1990 re-established state of Thuringia and went on to the district reform, which came into force on 1 July 1994, almost entirely in Kyffhauserkreis. Only the communities Bilzingsleben and Kannawurf came to the district Sömmerda.

Geography

The circle Artern in which lay the Kyffhaeuser Mountains, was crossed by the helmets and the Unstrut. The main towns next to the county seat Artern were the towns of Bad Frankenhausen, Heldrungen, Wiehe and the community Roßleben.

Traffic

The national road served the F 85 of Berga about Bad Frankenhausen to Weimar and the F 86 of Hettstedt over Artern to Erfurt.

The circle Artern was developed by the Railroads Sangerhausen Artern -Erfurt, Artern - Nebra -Naumburg and Bretleben Special Hausen.
