Asmir Begovic

Asmir Begovic ( born June 20, 1987 in Trebinje, SFR Yugoslavia, now Bosnia and Herzegovina ) is a Bosnian - Canadian footballer. Since 1 February 2010, the goalkeeper is the English first division club Stoke City under contract.

Career

Association

Begovic had come as a refugee to Germany. Age of ten he moved with his family to Canada, before returning an athlete back to Germany. In 2003 he moved from FC Kirchhausen to England in the youth department of FC Portsmouth. After two years he moved to the first team of the club. In order to give him match practice, the club would lend him to Belgium to RAA La Louviere. During the second half of the season 2006/ 07 he was given in a further lending to Macclesfield Town. There he was on 25 November 2006, his league debut against Stockport County. After first-choice goalkeeper Jonny Brain had violated Begovic came on in the 80th minute. After two more appearances for Macclesfield Begovic also suffered an injury. Even before the winter break, he returned to Portsmouth. At the beginning of the season 2007 /08 the goalie was awarded to AFC Bournemouth, where he was to remain until January 2008. Back in October of the current season, he was called back to Portsmouth. In March 2008, the club gave Begovic once again. In the Yeovil Town goalkeeper signed a four week contract. After two appearances, he was ordered back. In August 2008, it came to re- loan to Yeovil Town. Begovic signed for three months.

On 1 February 2010, he signed a contract with the English first division club Stoke City until 2014. Having had some time only the number two behind goalkeeper Thomas Sørensen there, he solved this from the tenth Round for the 2010/11 season and got the confidence of coach Tony Pulis. On November 2, 2013 Begovic scored in the game against Southampton FC after 13 seconds from his own penalty area to score.

National

Begovic played between 2004 and 2007 for the U-20 national team of Canada. With her he took her by the U -20 World Championship in 2005 in the Netherlands and 2007 in part in their own country. After he was in 2005 behind Josh Wagenaar yet been number two, he contested the 2007 World Cup as goalkeeper. The team dropped out after three games without a win tor and from the tournament. In 2007 he received a first nomination for the senior team in Canada, came in a friendly match on 14 August of the year against Iceland but not used. In the same year he was elected to the U-20 Player of the Year in Canada. He took over from David Edgar. In June 2009, Begovic decided to play for the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina. At his debut he came on 10 October 2009 at the World Cup qualifier against Estonia when he came on in injury time for Kenan Hasagić.
