Bellingwedde

Bellingwedde ( listen? / I ) is a municipality in the northeastern Netherlands in the province of Groningen. The name " Bellingwedde " is a compromise after the joining of communities Bellingwolde and Wedde 1968.

Bellingwedde bordering on Germany ( Bunde, Leer district, and roadstead (Ems ), Landkreis Emsland) and the municipalities ( from North to South counterclockwise) Reider country Winschoten, Pekela, Stadskanaal and Vlagtwedde. Bellingwedde has 8996 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013) and an area of 110 km ².

Worth seeing is the so-called garland gardens are ( in Dutch: " slingertuinen "), which many large old farms, the gallery Dutch windmill and Magnus Church of Bellingwolde and the fortress village of Oudeschans.

Trivia

From 1979 to 2007, Mr. Engbert Drenth was mayor of Bellingwedde. At his resignation, he was so in office longer than any other mayor then 466 in the Netherlands.
