Benjamin F. Bailar

Benjamin Franklin Bailar (* April 21, 1934 in Champaign, Illinois) was from 1975 to 1978 United States Postmaster General.

Career

Benjamin Franklin Bailar went to the University of Colorado, where in 1955 he took his Bachelor of Science in Geology. He then joined the United States Navy, where he worked from 1955 to 1957 at the rank of lieutenant. After his discharge from the U.S. Navy, he decided to go to Harvard University, where he received his Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 1959. After graduating, he began in the same year for ConocoPhillips to work. He was there engaged in Coordinating and Planning Staff. This activity he practiced from then until 1962. After that he began as a financial analyst at the American Can Company at work and increased to 1972 as Vice-President on. He then moved to the United States Postal Service, where he worked as a Senior Assistant Postmaster General for Support and Administration until 1974. In 1974 he was promoted to Deputy Postmaster General, a position which he held until 1975. After that, he held the office of Postmaster General until 1978. From 1978 he worked at USG Corporation, first as Executive Vice-President and later as director.
