Bertsdorf-Hörnitz

Bert Village Hoernitz is a municipality in the district Görlitz, Saxony, on the edge of the Zittau Mountains.

Geography and transport

Bert Village Hoernitz located in the south of the county, in a tributary of the Mandau between two 400 -meter-high mountain ranges. However, the Mandau itself only flows through the district Hoernitz. The community is located about three kilometers west of the town of Zittau and is adjacent to this. The community also has a railway station on the Zittau Narrow Gauge Railway, but the two kilometers located outside the municipal area.

History

Bert village and Althoernitz were Neuhörnitz created as Waldhufendorf as a strip of forest village.

Hoernitz 1912 formed from Alt- u Neuhörnitz.

The current major settlement was established on 1 March 1994 as part of the municipal reform from the two independent municipalities Bert village and Hoernitz. The municipality has received several awards in recent years, with the gold medal in the competition Entente Florale Europe 2005 and the gold medal in the national competition in 2004. She was most beautiful village in Saxony in 2003 and in the final round of the European Village Renewal Award 2004.
