Birgit Brüel

Birgit Thora Marie- Louise Brüel ( born October 6, 1927 in Copenhagen, † February 23, 1996 in Gentofte ) was a Danish singer and actress.

Life

Birgit Brüel was the daughter of Hjalmar Thielemann (1883-1964) and Valborg Mariane Hansen ( 1887-1970 ). She has appeared as a teenager on as a singer. In 1946, she married Irving Gunsted Karl ( 1924-1984 ), from his marriage, in 1949 divorced, she had a daughter. In 1950, she joined in Copenhagen in drama school at the Royal Theatre.

In 1951 she married the architect and jazz musician Max Brüel ( 1927-1995 ) and interrupted training for a year when in 1952 her twin daughters were born. With Brüels Jazz Quartet, she performed in the 1950s; marriage with Max Brüel divorced in 1962.

Despite the three children she continued her career as an actress and singer. 1953, she began her film career. In 1961 she appeared in Finn Savery and Erik Knudsen's satirical musical Frihed - det bedste guld on and took roles in various theaters. From 1961 to 1966 she sang in the Danish Radio Jazz Group under the leadership of Erik Moseholm.

With the song For dyn skyld she represented Denmark at the Euro Vision Song Contest in 1965 and came in at number 7 from 1968 to 1973 was the film director Nils Johan Magnus Cleveland Vest her partner. Until the 1980s, she worked with jazz pianist Torben Kjær. She starred in more than 20 films and has starred in several television series.
