Technology

The series has a water-cooled parallel twin engine jointly developed with Rotax (two- cylinder engine ), timing belt rear wheel drive (for F 800 S, ST, GT) or O -ring chain ( at F 800 R and F 800 GS). All models have a shock damping in the secondary drive. The arrangement of the tank under the seat is the same for all motorcycles of the series.

Motor

As a novelty in the parallel twin engine between the cylinders contains a Ausgleichspleuel sitting on its own crank pin with 180 ° stroke offset to the pistons. The Ausgleichspleuel performs a horizontally arranged under the swing gear. The crankshaft is supported in quadruplicate. A particularly good engine smoothness is achieved. The four valves per cylinder are controlled by dual overhead camshafts. The engine noise is like the boxer engines, thanks to the uniform Zündversatzes of 360 °. The engine is equipped with an injection system and a regulated three-way catalyst.
