Böckten

Böckten (Basel German: Böckte ) is a municipality in the district Sissach the canton of Basel -Country in Switzerland.

Geography

Böckten is in the middle Ergolztal between the two major neighboring villages Sissach in the west and in the east Gelterkinden. Other neighboring municipalities are Thürnen and Rickenbach. Böcktens village center is 385 meters above the sea. Forested areas of the community extend to up to around 740 meters.

The settlement area of Böckten has grown together over the course of the 1980s and 1990s with that of Gelterkinden. From the settlement area Sissachs it is still clearly separated. Despite this fact Böckten is administratively as district capital Sissach affiliated with, inter alia, in relation to the school and church governance. Due to its location directly between two larger villages Böckten is good transport connections to centers like Basel and Liestal, better than many other villages in the canton of comparable size.

History

Böckten name was only betting Mayrhofen. This name belongs to the clan names ending in- ingen followed - hofen. The simplified name Bettinchon was documented for the first time in 1246, the further simplification thereof Betkon first 1339th This linguistic simplifications created by the so-called " grinding ". This was followed later, analogous to Buckten, a change of consonants in spoken usage (tk became kt).

The earliest local tracks are a prehistoric fortified settlement on the Bischofstein. In the village they found relics from the Bronze Age and the Roman period, in Junkholz, a wooded area, two early medieval graves with grave goods. Farm and village Böckten were in the Middle Ages in homburgischem possession. By Thiersteiner Böckten came to power Farnsburg. After the opening of the Gotthard pass the castle Bischofstein was to secure the Lower Hauenstein pass in the second half of the 13th century on Kienberg above Böckten built (built to replace the castle Itkon and located in the municipality of Sissach ). 1311 she was a fief of the lords of Eptingen. Through the Basel earthquake in 1356, the castle Bischofstein was badly damaged, as some forty others castles in the region, but is still inhabited. In 1560, the castle fell apart completely. She is now restored and owned by the community of citizens Sissach. It is a popular tourist destination.

In the 14th to 15th centuries, several men shared the basic and court magnificent rights Böckten, including Henmann Offenburg and Wernher Steward of Rheinfelden, which sold 1467 all rights court over the village to the city of Basel. In Böckten various small companies and business establishments are located, as well as a larger factory of the food manufacturer Le Patron.

Traffic

Although situated on the railway line Basel- Olten, Böckten has no railway station. However, the railway station of Gelterkinden lies near the border with Böckten. Sissach railway station is a little further away. Running there a bus service of the BLT ( bus line 105: Böckten - Sissach station - Sissach Brüel ). The nearest motorway junction ( the A2 ) is also in Sissach, in about four kilometers from Böckten.

Already in 1891 took an electric tram from Sissach Gelterkinden their operation, which Sissach - Gelterkinden train. They also owned in Böckten a stop. However, this tram line was already a quarter of a century later, superfluous and therefore set on 8 January 1916, with the commissioning of the SBB line Basel- Olten Hauenstein.

The municipal executive, the municipal council consists of five members who are elected by the residents regularly and each lead a department.

Coat of arms

Six silver and blue cross beams in alternating order, starting at the top with silver. This is the crest of the Stewards of Rheinfelden, the last noble men who possessed Böckten.
